Workshopped May 2013

This show was created from a collection of interviews and turned into stories about identity, community and our relationship with food. The Premiere performance took place in the Edgewater neighborhood of Chicago. The stories collected from people around the country, explored the rituals of food in order to more deeply experience participation and authenticity in daily life. I was interested in re-examining the role of food in our current social and cultural conventions, by taking a critical look at the industrial-food complex and its effects on communities and the body through collected personal stories.

We shared one of the recorded interviews from our collection. This was from a permaculture artist who I met
at the Canticle Farm in Oakland, CA. He spoke about our relationship with food through our relationship with
death. The ensemble served a vegan meal during the recording as the audience ate and listened in silence.
